Protestors speak up about police brutality
/USC students and approximately 500 people marched through the heart of downtown Los Angeles Friday on the ninth annual National Day of Protest to stop police brutality. A mass of youths, mostly Hispanic, wore black to reflect their slogan, "Wear black, fight back!" while Cuatemoc Aztec dancers in traditional head dresses and grass skirts danced to express peace and unity. The march, organized by the October 22nd Coalition, was intended to expose the "national epidemic of police violence," according to the coalition's Web site. Students from the USC Peace and Conflict Scholars and Human Rights Action, activists from the Revolutionary Communist Youth Brigade and the October 22nd Coalition, members of the community and students from other colleges came together for the cause. Family members of victims and individuals who have suffered from police violence spoke about their repression and voiced their opinions about the judicial system. [more ]
