[Contrary to Propaganda by Racists] 2017 is On Pace for the 2nd Lowest Crime Rate Since 1990 & record low murders

No Substance to Racism. From [WashPost] At his swearing-in as the nation’s top law enforcement official in February, Attorney General Jeff Sessions picked up a thread that had run throughout Donald Trump’s campaign for president: America is experiencing an alarming crime wave.
“We have a crime problem,” Sessions said. “I wish the rise that we are seeing in crime in America today were some sort of aberration or a blip. My best judgment, having been involved in criminal law enforcement for many years, is that this is a dangerous, permanent trend that places the health and safety of the American people at risk.”
Preliminary analysis of crime data from the nation’s 30 largest cities released by the Brennan Center for Justice on Wednesday suggests that it isn’t. According to the center’s overview of crime and murder data, 2017 is on pace to have the second-lowest violent crime rate of any year since 1990.

- The overall crime rate is projected to drop by 1.8 percent to the second-lowest point since 1990.
- The violent crime rate is projected to fall by 0.6 percent, also to the second-lowest point in over 25 years. (The lowest rate was in 2014.) “This result,” the report’s authors write, “is driven primarily by stabilization in Chicago and declines in Washington, D.C., two large cities that experienced increases in violence in recent years.”
- The murder rate is projected to be down 2.5 percent, on-par with the rate in 2009

Obviously the Trump administration's rhetoric is not supported by facts and their efforts are pretext for a war on Black & Brown people. [MORE] Trump and many whites in the media continue to push the propaganda that 'crime is so high' to sell fear and promote racism/white supremacy. This is mind control bullshit that apparently controls perception and shapes our reality.
According to a new Pew Research Center survey," despite double-digit percentage decreases in U.S. violent and property crime rates since 2008, most white voters say crime has gotten worse during that span. Due to aggressive propaganda from Trump and other racists this disconnect is nothing new, though: white Americans’ perceptions of crime are often at odds with the data.
Leading up to Election Day, a majority (57%) of those who had voted or planned to vote said crime has gotten worse in this country since 2008. Almost eight-in-ten voters who supported President-elect Donald Trump (78%) said this, as did 37% of backers of Democrat Hillary Clinton. Just 5% of pro-Trump voters and a quarter of Clinton supporters said crime has gotten better since 2008, according to the survey of 3,788 adults conducted Oct. 25-Nov. 8.[MORE]
Like other make believe stuff this disconnect really should be a matter of just dispelling ignorance, educating people about reality and such. But White people's inability to see things as they really are with regard to crime [and so much more] has to do with the power of their belief in their fantasy of white supremacy/racism.

Under normal circumstances, what others think of you is really their problem. But what if "the others" have the power to project? In the context of the system of racism/white supremacy - a system of vast unequal power between whites and non-whites, racists have the power to bring into reality the stereotypes they project. Such is the nature of "race," which, of course, is not real, but racism is -- Dr. Blynd defines as "a totally artificial theologically-driven, biologically-based, and scientifically-invalid "European" ideology of human genetic evolution and classification coiniciding with the emergence of colonialism and the rise of the transatlantic slave trade." Based on their cartoon beliefs, racists, like Sessions, Trump, elite media etc., go on projecting and have created a play or pretend world for us to live in - a world in which they idiodically imagine themselves to be a part of a hierarchy wherein persons unable to produce color & lacking melanin are supreme; imagining themselves to be higher than what they imagine you to be. These folks can't or don't want to see things as they really are - but they have the power to project.
For instance, Sessions has proposed a more violent war on drugs - one not constrained by logic or evidence but by perceptions created by racist propaganda. In May, Sessions rolled back the clock to the 1980s, reinstating the harsh, indiscriminate use of mandatory minimum drug sentences imposed at the height of the crack epidemic. Sessions attempted to justify his directive in a Post op-ed last weekend, stoking fear by claiming that as a result of then-Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s Smart on Crime policy, the United States is gripped by a rising epidemic of violent crime that can only be cured by putting more drug offenders in jail for more time. Not only are violent crime rates still at historic lows but there is also no evidence that the increase in violent crime some cities have experienced is the result of drug offenders not serving enough time in prison. In fact, a recent study by the bipartisan U.S. Sentencing Commission found that drug defendants with shorter sentences were actually slightly less likely to commit crimes when released than those sentenced under older, more severe penalties. Als a result of this racist approach, the private prison industry has seen a boon under Trump. [MORE] Also Trump signed an executive order undoing an Obama administration directive that restricted police agencies’ access to the gear that includes grenade launchers, bullet-proof vests, riot shields, firearms and ammunition [MORE] - to fight rising crime [act genocidally towards Blacks & Latinos].
Racists perceive and then project criminality upon Blacks in order to treat Blacks criminally and to simultaneously feel good or moral about themselves. For instance, after the Charlottesville episode, so-called neo-Nazi leader Christopher Cantwell explained to VICE that 'crime is rampant and Blacks are going to coast to coast killing each other.' Amos Wilson explains, "the perpetual domination of African Americans by White Americans psychically requires the White American criminalization of the African male, i.e., the White American perception of the African male as inherently criminal." He states, 'that alleged Black criminality plays a very important role in defining the collective White American ego and personality. [MORE] Such maneuvers are necessary in order to justify racist White American community's repression of African Americans and psychodynamically defend the collective White American ego complex. The question is how can we neutralize this power of projection and in what ways does their power depend upon our consent or participation?
